February 18, 2013 (Monday)
We gathered our teaching charts and traveled to Mitume slum. We are very pleased to see new mamas in
class.
Each week the class gets bigger
so we know that the word is being shared throughout the slum. “On time” doesn’t
exist here and throughout the class others will come in and join us.
The children continue to gather around the
outside of the church to watch the white women and some find the strength to
come inside with us. Others remain
cautious and stay a distance away. Today
I will take the first half of class and Joni will teach the last half. Motorbikes displaying political flags ride
throughout the slums and the excitement of Election Day continues to rise as we
draw closer to March.

The power continues to be off and we have heard that a Blue Gum tree that was
being cut has taken out a wire. So we
wait patiently and watch the battery level of our computers. Flash lights become the source of finding our
way around the house at night.
Today class
is held in Shimo a slum area not too far away.
Again the attention of the class is amazing. Questions are being asked
and notes are being taken. We are so
encouraged at the class participation and the hunger that we see within
them. Not everyone can read and write but
we still invite them to join as. They
are growing by “hearing” the word.
